UNIFORM EXPECTATIONS

At UCTC, we believe there is a strong link between students’ uniform and their learning. Uniform sets a tone of positive team spirit and pride in our outstanding college.

  • College polo shirt with logo - only polo shirts bearing the College logo are permitted. Any T shirts/vests worn under should be same navy blue only. No non-college polo shirts.  The exception to this is if parents wish to buy a polo shirt of the same colour and style as the college one and sew on a college logo.
  • College v-neck jumper or cardigan with logo - only jumpers and cardigans bearing the College logo are permitted. No non-college jumpers, cardigans or sweatshirts. Please note that for the school year starting September 2011 navy college sweatshirts with the logo, as available during previous years, will be permitted.
  • Girls - Navy skirt or trousers (not denim or cord). Skirts must be College approved style with box pleats, available from our suppliers, and be a maximum 8cm above the knee. No tight skirts.  Trousers may be purchased from our suppliers.   No ‘skinny fit’ or ‘wide leg’ trousers or leggings are permitted.
  • Boys – Plain navy blue trousers which can be purchased from our suppliers.  Trousers must be plain, navy blue formal school trousers, to be worn fastened above the waist.  Boys are to wear trousers properly, i.e. not very low down and any belt necessary should be plain black or navy with a normal and discreet buckle. Denim or casual trousers (e.g. skinny leg or combat style) are not permitted.
  • Girls - White, navy or black socks (no ‘over knee’ socks).  Black, navy or neutral tights (no footless or patterned tights).
  • Boys - Navy, black, or grey socks
  • Black Shoes (not trainers, sandals, slipper shoes or boots).
  • Please ensure that suitable outdoor coats are worn on the journey to and from College. Denim and leather are unsuitable materials.  Any coat/jacket should be plain in line with the college uniform.  Non-college sweatshirts and hoodies are not permitted in place of coats. Coats should not be worn indoors or in classrooms. However, they are allowed in the corridors/eating areas during Dec, Jan and Feb.
  • Belts are only permitted if required to hold up trousers/skirt (not as a fashion accessory) and should be thin and plain black or navy with a normal and discreet buckle.
  • For Health & Safety reasons it is not permitted for students to wear earrings or have body piercing. Tongue or other piercings are not permitted. We will, however, allow one pair of ear studs which must be removed before a PE lesson (sleeper hoops are not permitted).  Necklaces, rings and bracelets are not permitted.
  • Haircuts - extreme or shaved styles are not acceptable. If hair is dyed hair it should look natural and natural colours should be used. If you are in doubt, please contact the college in advance.
  • Make-up is not permitted in years 7-9. The Parents’ Forum had a number of parents who are very upset at the pressure put on young girls to wear make up. We are prepared to permit a small amount in years 10 and 11 if it is judged appropriate for a professional workplace.
  • Scarves are not permitted indoors.
  • MP3/Ipods are to only be on and used at break or lunch. Off and away (not visible as an ear piece is easily slipped into an ear during a lesson if hanging out) at all other times unless a teacher has permitted.
  • Mobile phones are only to be on and used at break or lunch, unless directed by a teacher to use as a tool for learning. Off and away at all other times.
  • Items worn for religious reasons are acceptable.

Please ensure that all items of school uniform should be clearly named.  The College policy is to return named items of uniform to students.  All un-named uniform is held until the end of the term in which they are found and then sent to charity shops or the PTA.
